Anyone who knows Ben knows that he is, well, NOT handy. Neither am I. So we tend to call repair services instead of fixing things ourselves, or we buy new instead of used because then we are less likely to have problems.
That said, lately it seems like all poor Ben has to do is look at something the wrong way and it breaks! Take our lawnmower for example. Our previous lawnmower died and we really didn't want to sink a lot of money into a new one, so we found one on Craigslist that was pretty cheap. It was an older Craftsman gas mower with a rebuilt engine, but it ran just fine.
The second time Ben used it, he ran over a rock in the back yard and the blade was bent way out of shape. Not to be deterred, I ordered a new blade online for about 30% less than getting one from Sears would have been. Back in business, Ben was more or less happily mowing the lawn.
This morning he went out to try to get the front lawn done before taking Rachel to her piano lesson. He pulled the cord to get the mower started... and the cord broke off in his hand.
Needless to say, we've opted to grow a jungle in our yard for the remainder of our time here in Kansas. Or perhaps we'll go buy a new mower since buying the used one clearly hasn't saved us any money.
