Lately Rachel has been asking about playing the piano, but she is totally not ready for music lessons. She told me that she only wants to learn the tunes to certain songs and that she would leave the room if the teacher tried to teach her other music. Hmm. Something tells me that we're not going to be signing her up anytime soon!
This morning, Rachel asked to go play "Old MacDonald" on the piano. She took her storybook in, set it on the music stand and then got upset because she didn't know how to play it.
I decided to have a little fun with her. She now knows all the names of the keys on the piano:
Aardvark Bird Cat Dog Elephant Frog Gorilla
She can even play Dog-Flat and Elephant-Flat! Haha. She also knows their "real" names - ABCDEFG. I wasn't planning to teach her myself, but I might see where this goes. We could always have some fun and then sign her up for lessons when she's more developmentally ready to sit through them! (Mind you, as a private music teacher, it always drives me nuts when well-meaning Mom or Dad has "taught" their kid the basics because it inevitably needs to be re-taught.)
As she went out the door to go to preschool this morning, she was singing a lovely natural minor scale: "Aardvark, Bird, Cat, Dog, Elephant, Frog, Gorilla! And then Aardvark again! How come there's no H?"
