Yesterday I was out at a local mall with a friend killing time and trying to fit in some adult conversation. We somehow got on discussing holidays. Since Christmas stuff is already in the stores, I commented that it won't be long before people start asking my children what they want Santa to bring them for Christmas.
When this happened two years ago in London, I replied that we don't celebrate Christmas because we're Jewish. "Oh? What DO you celebrate?" was the oh-so-brilliant response.
Anyhow, my genius friend (who is also very conservative and devoutly Catholic) suggested the following dialogue:
Ignorant store person: "What do you want Santa to bring you for Christmas?"
My lovely child: "The real Messiah!"
I don't think I'd actually teach her to say that, but oh, it's tempting!!
